“Nothing makes the future look so rosy as to contemplate it through a glass of Chambertin.”

Napoleon Bonaparte

The region of Tuscany is full of surprises when it comes to accommodation options staying in a castle is entirely possible. One such option is the lovely 11th century Castello di Volognanoa medieval abode only twenty minutes from Florence in the lovely Valdarno hills with room with six-bedrooms, a beautiful pool and its very own wine cellar. We imagine this to be the perfect spot for those who want a century-old slice of luxury within close distance to many of regions cultural gems such as Michelangelo’s David in Florence and the beautiful town of Siena.

The perfect option for special events, weddings and intimate gatherings, this villa comes complete with a stunning pool overlooking the countryside. one of the best we’ve ever seen. With six bedrooms, there is plenty of rooms for a group of around 10-12 people in total. Those who love wine will rejoice in the private cellar, the castle is a working winery that produces around 5,000 bottles of delicious Chianti Colli Fiorentini annually. We can arrange for a number of day-trip activities and a private chef to show you how to make fresh pasta.

What’s Nearby?

Rignano sull’Arno is a lovely area in Tuscany near Florence, with almost 8,000 inhabitants, the first traces of people here date back to Roman times. Nearby is the Renaissance city of Florence, with an endless ray of options for the more artistically inclined, or those who just love to get lost in a place of so many greats. To go off-the-beaten-path we say skip the Uffizi gallery, and go for the distinguished Palazzo Pitti, the palace of the powerful Medici family and filled with endless treasures.

Other personal suggestions include a stopover Bardini gardens which are much less crowded than Boboli, which coincidentally is nearby to a wonderful and hidden restaurant, the superb La Leggenda dei Frati. Shop at artisan perfume maker Aqua Flor, which in itself is possibly one of the prettiest shops we’ve ever seen and browse the latest fashions at Luisa Via Roma before stopping for a spritz at Amble. Easy to miss, it is nestled in a hidden piazza near Ponte Vecchio.
